(Optional) Why?

Data
Code Value
50311958 having trouble justifying the money, especially as an independent consultant in a tight economy
50312351 To support my writing team.
50312594 Semi-retired; not sure how relevant STC is now to the work I actuallly do. (Although it's been invaluable in the past. I'd definitely encourage younger members to hang in there.)
50312253 I do not believe that the cost of membership is worth the "benefits" of membership. I didn't even ask my company if they would reimburse the cost. STC has been out of touch for a very long time, as far as I'm concerned, and until they can make membership more beneficial, it's not worth the money to me.
50312342 I pay my own dues and ~$300 (membership, chapter, SIGs) is quite pricey. Plus, I do not see ROI for fees that essentially equal a dollar a day.
50313599 Renewing membership in both the national STC and the Intermountain Chapter will cost me $240. Coincidentally, $240 is what it costs me for ONE WEEK of health insurance! Considering that I rarely attend meetings and no longer do very much tech writing in my business, I just don't see the value in STC anymore. I could justify $175/year or so, but $240 is too much of a jump.
50313002 However, most likely "yes" will be the response because "so far" I've been able to convince management of the return on investment.
50315527 cost
50315678 Too expensive. Not a great ROI.
50315676 It's not worth the higher cost. It was barely worth the previous cost. The things I value about STC I can get elsewhere for much less or even free.
50316156 Way overpriced.
50318545 A dues increase of 60% is hard to take and I am not sure if it is worth it.
50321187 Trying to determine the real value of being a member of STC.
50320950 I'm not sure it's worth it.
50321003 $$$$
50325770 I do not feel the ROI is worth it. I'm also somewhat disenchanted with the current leadership and what I feel is a drive towards a more national organization. The local aspects were what I found most valuable.
50326042 I renewed because of the student membership piece and the new SIG 'Content Strategy.'
50327733 I hate having to give up my membership after 20+ years, but I just can't justify the cost vs. value, even though the membership fee would be covered by my company.
50330181 Protesting. If they offered chapter memberships, I would rejoin Intermountain. Truthfully, I'm very disappointed in the STC mother organization.
50336552 Don't want to pay the high fee, but love the SIGs.
50342315 Too expensive
50346206 My training budget is $200 for the year. My employer won't "sponsor" a membership that is double the price of last year.
50342281 I find little value in the organization beyond the potential networking opportunity, which is still questionable. Of the writers I've known or have at least met outside the realm of academia; only one, whom I happened to have worked with, had an affiliation that was none the less less held with enough of an elitist affinity to offer the impression that your organization seeks more to be the practiced gatekeepers than to be those seeking to elevate the trade.
50377259 No ROI
50383836 Cost/Benefit
50385179 Work pays.
50392762 Not sure my company will pay for it.
50392380 Benefits don't match price.
50394704 I only subscribe to get intercom
50395269 The cost is getting to be too expensive for the value I receive.
50395860 6 people read the journal here. 3 want it for sure and 3 are OK either way. We are lucky to be able to afford the increase. Our policy right now is no increase on anything, but this will be approved.
50425042 My company has agreed to pay for it. However, if they did not agree, I would not be paying it.
50422369 I find the Lone Writers mailing list to be extremely helpful.
50787175 I have a training budget from my employer that I'll be using to pay for it. Otherwise, I most likely wouldn't be renewing.
50800110 Cost too high for value received
50862858 I didn't have time to get out of my membership what I wanted. I couldn't get to the mid-week seminars due to work and the hour-plus drive to get to them.
50888256 Other than interaction with a few choice colleagues, the information I glean is not really relevant to my work.
50922325 I have no current source of income and no funds right now to pay for membership, increased or not.
50936646 Increased price, office in the East taking back all money from the chapters and leaving a question mark about how chapters can continue on zero budgets, unsure of my company reimbursing, other high personal (medical) expenditures approaching on an already tight budget
50946740 Hike in fee
51001454 I belong to two other professional writing organizations; and those each have: (a) cheaper annual fees (now that STC has raised the rates significantly) , (b) more flexible and active members who are able and do attend meetings, and (c)classes at excellent rates or free.
